Menlo Park, CA — January 3, 2006 — Gear6, creator of a powerful technology base to accelerate storage and deliver real time performance for the enterprise data center, today announced that Tom Shea has been appointed president and chief executive officer. Matt Oberdorfer, company founder, will continue as chief technology officer to expand the executive strength to take Gear6 to market on a fast track with superior technology and leadership. A seasoned executive, Shea's business background and successful leadership of storage and digital data software companies give him the perspective on the network storage universe to push Gear6 toward its market goals.
“Tom brings us a perfect-storm of executive strength, engineering background and domain expertise to continue guiding the trajectory planned for Gear6,” said Oberdorfer. “With Tom joining our management team, we have the right leadership to continue our growth. His ability to drive our momentum will let us quickly realize success in our market opportunity.”
Shea joins Oberdorfer in the executive management of Gear6, along with Advisory Council members Geoff Barral, CEO, Trusted Data, and Rich Boberg, consultant and software engineer, and 12-year veteran in software development and management at NetApp, where he was employee number six.
“Gear6 has the right team to advance storage acceleration solutions for performance problems in the data center, and I am pleased to be onboard,” said Shea. “Growth in the data center has created complex subsystems and vast network landscapes that demand fresh, transparent solutions to boost performance. Gear6 technology is ready to advance these solutions and I look forward to working with the exceptional talent and technology as the company makes its market entry.”
Founded in 2002 as Engineered Intelligence, the company developed high-performance computing solutions using distributed, clustered architectures, which were deployed in conjunction with top-tier OEM partners.
In 2005, based on the widening gap between the increasing processing power of servers and lagging mechanical storage devices, the company invented additional technology that delivers scalable and transparent storage acceleration to mainstream enterprises. Gear6 solutions accelerate existing storage infrastructure for real time performance, eliminate bottlenecks, and guarantee transaction response times. These real time capabilities speed up applications, provide protection from peak load disruptions, and improve quality of service.
